How to Reduce Image File Size
Large image files slow down websites, bounce off email attachment limits, and eat into mobile data. Here's how to reduce image file size without extra software.
1. Choose the right format
Photos generally compress best as JPG or WebP. Screenshots, logos and graphics with flat colors or transparency usually work better as PNG, though they can often still be reduced further.
2. Resize to the dimensions you actually need
Dimensions have a bigger effect on file size than most people expect. Halving an image's width and height can cut its file size by roughly 75%, since you're removing both width and height pixels.
3. Adjust compression quality
For JPG and WebP, quality settings in the 70–85% range typically give a large size reduction with minimal visible change. Push lower only if file size matters more than visual fidelity for your use case.
4. Remove what you don't need
Some images carry extra embedded metadata (camera settings, location data, thumbnails) that adds to file size without adding value once the image is on the web. Re-encoding an image, as a compressor does, typically strips this out.
Do it in your browser
NAPIZO's Image Compressor handles resizing-adjacent compression and quality control in one place, showing your exact size reduction before you download.
